Kickboxing Christchurch

jefponI began training in Muay Thai Kickboxing at Proactive in 2005.

My friend Richard (yes the same one) suggested we go along to the classes to supplement our fitness programme for multisport events.

3 years later, the Kickboxing has taken over, as I’m now at the club at least 3 times a week.
Now I have the pleasure of teaching a class at Riccarton two nights a week.

From my first night when I fell over doing a round kick, to fighting in the ring before a crowd of people, it has been a great and enjoyable journey. I have made lifelong friends and acquaintances and had some incredible experiences on the way. Recently I joined a group of New Zealand and Australian martial artists and travelled to Thailand where we trained with the thais, and some of us even fought in the ring there.

I really enjoy the friendly environment we have at the club, and it’s amazing to see a student develop from their first awkward moments when they start, to becoming proficient in the skills that myself and my co-instructor Stefan are teaching.

It’s been a big learning curve for me, but I have noticed an improvement in my own techniques and have more confidence talking to a group of people.
I feel that martial arts is a fantastic way for anyone, from any walk of life to boost confidence, instil self discipline, get fit, meet new people and develop skills that are practical in today’s world. The systems and environment offered at Proactive are unparalleled, and I believe that it’s the best place to train in Christchurch.
I’m usually to be found at Riccarton on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, teaching the adults beginner class. If you have any questions come up and have a chat, otherwise I look forward to seeing you on the floor.
